Do you want to pay between $500-$600 to program one key for your car!!? Then SKIP the DEALERSHIP and come here! I had the original car keys with the broken fobs. I purchased the new fobs for my Buick Encore through Amazon cheap and instead of costing $1000-$1200 for programing two keys at the dealership it cost me $80 at Bill’s So, that’s $40 a key! Furthermore, the dealership in Hemet proceeded to tell me I would have to wait several hours to get a key done and programmed. Bill’s Locksmith Shop had two keys made and programmed in less than 15 minutes. I recommend calling first before going down there BUT definitely skip the dealership and come HERE!

It was right around 2:00 in the afternoon when my phone rang while I was at work. It was my wife. The first words out of her mouth were, “You aren’t going to believe what I just did.” I laughed and asked, “What’s that?” She said, “I tried opening a soda can with my car key… and the key snapped in half.” Of course, I had questions. “You did what?” She explained how it happened, and once I realized she was serious, my mind immediately shifted into problem-solving mode. My wife got off work at 5:00 PM, which meant I had less than three hours to somehow get a replacement key made and back to her before she was stranded. The problem was, this wasn’t just any key. It was one of those chipped Pontiac keys — not exactly something every store has sitting on a shelf ready to go. I grabbed both broken pieces of the key and headed over to Bill’s Locksmith in Hemet, California. When I walked in, I explained the situation to Charles, the owner. I handed him the two broken halves and asked if there was any way he could help me. Charles looked things over and told me he didn’t have the chipped key in stock. My heart sank for a second. But then he walked over to his key-cutting machine with the broken pieces and carefully made a new key from them. Now remember — my original key was chipped. The replacement key he cut was not. Charles handed it to me and said, “Take the chipped portion of your broken key and hold it next to this new key when you start the car. It should work.” At that moment, it felt like the world lifted off my shoulders. My wife was going to be able to get home. I asked Charles if he could order me a proper replacement chipped key. He said absolutely. I gave him my phone number, and since it was a holiday weekend, we both figured it would probably arrive sometime the following week. Then I asked him the question everybody asks: “What do I owe you?” Charles looked at me and simply said, “Nothing.” That caught me off guard. In a world where everything seems rushed, automated, overpriced, or transactional, Charles was one of those rare individuals who still values people and simple human kindness. The funny thing is, that little three-dollar key he gave away for free probably earned him more loyalty and referrals than thousands of dollars in advertising ever could. Before I left, I asked him if he had a website or any kind of internet presence. He smiled and said no. He had no interest in it. So if you happen to read this and you ever stop by Bill’s Locksmith in Hemet, let Charles know the internet worked for him after all. He didn’t ask me to write this.
